Alabama Duo Signs With ASU Women's Basketball
ONESBORO, Ark.
(4/14/10) - Arkansas State head coach Brian Boyer announced Wednesday
that Madison, Al. standouts Mekena Randle and Tiarra Pritchett have
signed national letters of intent to continue their basketball careers
at Arkansas State University. The duo led Bob
Jones High School to a 101-8 record over the last three seasons,
including two Class 6A state championships and one state runner-up
finish. Randle, a 5'9"
forward, was named second-team All-State after averaging 14 points,
eight rebounds, four steals and two assists per game during the 2010
season. She was also named to the AHSAA Northwest Regional
All-Tournament team and the Huntsville Times 2010 Elite team. "Mekena is a very
gifted athlete," said ASU head coach Brian Boyer. "She will fit in very
well in the Sun Belt Conference because of her athletic ability. Her
size, strength and explosiveness make her a very difficult matchup
one-on-one." Pritchett, a 5'5"
guard, was also named the MVP of the AHSAA Northwest Regional
All-Tournament team and to the Huntsville Times 2010 Elite
team, as well as earning honorable mention All-State honors. She
averaged eight points, four rebounds, seven assists and four steals for
the Patriots last season. "Tiarra is as
athletic as any point guard in our conference," said Boyer. "What makes
Tiarra special is that she is extremely quick and fast with the ball in
her hands, but you rarely see her get out of control." "I am very excited
to add both Tiarra and Mekena to our roster," Boyer continued. "It is
rare to sign two players from the same high school, but when you look at
what the two of them have accomplished during their careers you can see
why we are so high on them. They have played at the highest level in
Alabama and have won nearly every night. There is a huge adjustment
from high school to Division I basketball, but both Mekena and Tiarra
have been so well coached that this adjustment will be much easier for
them. Coach (Tim) Miller runs his high school program like a college
program. He challenges them daily so they will be very well prepared
for the transition to Arkansas State." Randle is the
daughter of Terry and Mary Randle, while Pritchett is the daughter of
Erika Pritchett-Tanner.

Randle and Pritchett sign with Arkansas State!

In following an impressive string of high school basketball players, coached by Tim Miller, going to the next level... Mekena Randle and Tiarra Pritchett signed with the Division 1 Arkansas State Wolves of the Sun Belt Conference on April 14, 2010 in the A/V room at Bob Jones High School. Mekena Randle, a forward who carries a 3.6 GPA, was named to The Huntsville Times Elite squad this season. She was also All-Tournament at The Times Ladies Classic, the Northwest Regional and at the Final 48 and was named second-team All-State. Tiarra Pritchett, a point guard, was named to The Huntsville Times Elite honorable mention and selected All-State honorable mention. Mekena and Tiarra are two of this year's four seniors who lead the Lady Patriots back to the State Championship game in Birmingham after winning state 6A titles their sophomore and junior seasons. The two other seniors, Alisia Matthews and Shelby Lambert, also started for the 33-3 squad and will be greatly missed. Shelby looked over several basketball offers before deciding to take the academic route to Samford University. Alisia has also had several choices and is attempting to earn a track scholarship after the current track season. This year's squad also got to be a part of Coach Tim Miller's 300th win in route to his current 304-46 record.

Sports writers honor Bob Jones coaches
Basketball mentors Petty, Miller are tops for Class 6-A
Not only does Bob Jones High School have one of the best basketball programs
in Alabama, it has the best basketball coaches in the state.Danny Petty, the boys' head basketball coach, and Tim Miller, the girls' head
basketball coach, were named Class 6-A Coach of the Year by the Alabama Sports
Writers Association for the 2009-2010 season. To win the award in the same year is rare. Petty and Miller have won Coach of
the Year honors, but agree that this year's honor came as a surprise."I was very shocked. It was unexpected, and I didn't find out until some of
my current and former players began texting me that they saw in the newspaper
that I had won the award," said Miller, 40.He won the award in 2008 at Bob Jones and in 2006 as head coach at Jeff Davis
in Montgomery. This is Petty's third Coach of the Year award. He was also honored while
coaching at Johnson High School in 1987 and at Madison Academy in 2006. He
became the first coach to win a state title at three separate schools. Petty,
who is always humble about his coaching, said his honor was possible because he
had a great group of assistant coaches and players. "We're all in this together and this year's team was a great life lesson,"
said Petty, 59. The Patriots (20-14) were state runners-up last year and were a favorite to
make a return trip to the final four heading into the 2009-2010 season. But the
team was devastated by injuries and became an underdog. The team beat top-ranked
Homewood 61-45 for the state title. Petty said it best when he described his team as players who would not lie
down and kept getting better and better throughout the season. "By the end of the season, our team played together. Each player figured out
what it took to win and played their role in this unique situation," Petty said.
"They knew they became underdogs, but that didn't stagger their confidence." On the other hand, Miller lost all five starters from a two-time defending
state championship team. With new players and "no flash of greatness on our
team," Miller said, the Lady Patriots (33-3) preceded to finish runners-up in
the state when it lost to No. 1-ranked Hoover 39-19. "It was amazing how we won games through the season. The girls always found a
way to win using lots of good defense. These girls would get after you," Miller
said. The basketball programs at Bob Jones are in good hands with Petty and Miller.
The men get along with one another, respect each other as coaches and talked
about their teams throughout the season. Miller said, "I would pick Danny's brain every chance I could because he has
so much experience as a coach and knowledge of the game. He taught me how to be
more patient. This season I really needed the patience. It paid off." Petty said, "I thought Tim did a tremendous job and he deserves the award.
It's a nice feeling to have such great success from the same school in this one
(high) school town. I keep asking myself, how in the world did we do this? How
can it be any better?" Wednesday, April 07, 2010, By Bob Labbe,For the Madison Spirit bob0873@yahoo.com

AL-MS All-Star game
Alabama trailed by only two points at the half before things turned ugly.
Mississippi amped up the intensity in the second half to run away for the
victory. The Mississippi victory broke a three-game Alabama win streak, but Alabama
still leads the series 11-9. Alabama was able to stay close in the first half behind the inside play of
LeFlore's Shanece McKinney, who tallied six points and nine rebounds, and the
outside shooting of Woodland's Courtney Strain. The state's all-time leading scorer, Strain also scored six points in the
first half and finished with team-high 14 points and added eight rebounds to
earn Alabama MVP. Mississippi MVP Bree'Anna Lewis didn't score in the first half, but exploded
for 17 in the second half. She found plenty of holes in the Alabama defense and
led the potent Mississippi fast break. Alabama jumped out to a 7-2 lead on five straight points from Strain and a
pair of free throws from Hoover's Tyrese Tanner. Mississippi settled down and took the lead for good on Anontekia Williams'
3-pointer with 6:01 left in the half and led 28-26 at intermission. Alabama kept it close early in the second half, puling to 33-30 on Strain's
steal and layup with 15:58 left, but Mississippi scored the next 13 points and
the game was over. Bob Jones' Mekena Randle scored two points and grabbed two rebounds.

Memorable seasons
Juniors Randolph, Lacey are among top players named by ASWA
Before the 2009-10 basketball season began, all things
pointed toward a bright future for Bob Jones' boys
team. The Patriots had three starters returning from their Class 6A state runner-up team, and they weren't just any
starters. There was 6-foot-4 junior guard Levi Randolph, who already had the attention of several Southeastern Conference
schools, among others. There was 6-6 senior forward Jose
Long, who also hoped to play in college. And there was
muscular 6-3 sophomore forward Reggie Ragland, one of the
top players in the state but whose future probably lies in
an SEC football program. A starting lineup featuring those three was what coach Danny Petty was looking forward to last fall. That is, until injuries struck both Long and Ragland before the season began. Of course, Bob Jones won the 6A state championship anyway. Ragland returned, although he was limited to a handful of minutes in the last two games of the season. Long never did take the court. But Randolph played so well he's today named the state's 6A All-State Player of the Year. And Petty, who held the team together with duct tape and a strong work ethic, is the 6A Coach of the Year after claiming his third state title. "This is a year to remember,'' said Randolph, who averaged 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Petty became the first coach to win state titles at three separate schools. He also won at Johnson and Madison Academy. "It was just a great team,'' Petty said with an emphasis on team. "They didn't try to do too much.'' The Bob Jones boys are joined by other locals who won specialty awards for the All-State teams. The teams are voted on by a committee of the Alabama Sports
Writers Association. - Bob Jones' Tim Miller is girls 6A Coach of the Year
after taking the two-time defending state champion Lady
Patriots back to the title game despite replacing five
starters.
- Columbia's Jeff Cooper is boys 4A Coach of the Year
after leading the Eagles to the Final 48 in just the fourth
varsity season for the program, all under him.
- Clements' Sonya Marks is girls 2A Coach of the Year
after taking the Lady Colts to the school's first state
crown.
- West Morgan sophomore and scoring sensation Hayden Hamby
is girls 3A Player of the Year.
- Butler junior Trevor Lacey, who injured his knee in the
area tournament final and missed the rest of the season, did
enough before the playoffs and is boys 5A Player of the
Year.
Lacey averaged 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists
this season. Like Randolph, he's also being courted
heavily by SEC schools and, like Randolph, is a candidate
for Mr. Basketball. Lacey, who said he had cartilage "smoothed
out'' in the knee and was only off the court for
three weeks, said he was disappointed he missed a chance to
lead the Rebels to a third straight state title. But he said
he wouldn't linger on it and hopes to get a third title
in his senior season. "Coach (Jack) Doss told me God has a plan,''
Lacey said. "I tried to motivate the team, but we ran
out of gas.'' The team that knocked Butler from its 5A perch, Lee, had one
player on the 5A first team in forward Josh Langford. Generals coach Greg Brown was edged out for coach of the
year honors by James Jackson, who led Carver-Montgomery to a
runner-up finish one year after it was kicked out of the
state tournament for its part in a regional brawl against
Valley. Carver wasn't allowed to travel outside of Montgomery
except for area games, but Jackson got the team to
Birmingham despite the limited regular-season competition.
Other local and area girls players making first team are:
Sparkman sophomore Jasmine Jones, Decatur senior Britney
McLoud, Madison Academy junior Nyla Johnson and Clements
freshman Daneisha Malone.
Second-team members include: Bob Jones senior Mekena Randle,
Madison Academy senior Haley Stewart, Clements junior
Chelsea Haggermaker and North Sand Mountain senior Chelsea
Ellison.
Honorable mention goes to: Bob Jones senior Tiarra
Pritchett, Sparkman junior Sharin Rivers, Madison County
freshman Hannah Nichols, Brewer seniors Chelsey Smith and
Elizabeth Bromirski, DAR senior Mallory Kirkland, Madison
Academy sophomore Lydia McGee and Clements senior Jordan
Beggs.
One other area boy, Section junior Clint Ryan, made the
first team. Second-team members include: Buckhorn senior Dallas Jones,
Sparkman senior Kendal Jennings, Austin senior Jay Watkins,
Butler senior Ryan Ervin, Lee senior Devin Langford,
Columbia junior Dionte Kelly, Madison Academy junior Spencer
Palmer, West Limestone sophomore Preston Herring and
Westminster senior Jamaul Stallworth. Honorable mention goes to: Decatur senior William Johnson,
Madison Academy forward Jordan Matthews, West Morgan senior
David Pritchard, Tanner sophomore Matthew Hines and Section
sophomore Chance McCarver.

Madison's Harris tabbed by C-USA
UAB Star wins Freshman, Sixth Player awards
It apparently doesn't matter if Jala Harris starts or comes off the bench. Either way, she's the best freshman in Conference USA. The UAB guard backed up her last year's Miss Basketball award at Bob Jones High with two league honors on Sunday: Freshman and Sixth Player of the Year. Harris is the first player in C-USA history to win the two awards in the same season. "I pretty much came in as a freshman and continued from where I left off in high school," said Harris, a second-team, all-conference selection. "I came to UAB because I knew I was going to have an opportunity to play." The 5-foot-6 Harris has taken that chance and run with it. She's averaging a team-high 16.4 points per game this year - including a freshman conference-record 40 points against Marshall - and also leads the Blazers in assists at 3.2 per game. Harris started 11 games early in the season, but she began coming off the bench once league play got under way in January. Her scoring average in C-USA games increased to 18.3 per game, even though she started just once in 16 contests. "It's not that it feels any different starting or coming off the bench," said Harris, who still leads the team in minutes with 32.6 per game. "It's just that I give the team a spark." It's helped UAB of late. The Blazers went through a rough stretch in late January - losing three games by a total of six points, two in overtime - and wound up dropping eight of nine into early February, but they closed the regular season with three straight victories to even their record at 14-14. Sixth-seeded UAB will begin conference tournament play today against host Tulsa, the 11th seed. "Right now we're playing some of our best ball of the year," Harris said. "I think we're going to be tough to handle." On the court, Harris' transition from high school to the college game proved to be a smooth one. She said roles were established early and everyone on the roster understood what they were supposed to do. "The biggest adjustment?" she asked. "Probably the losing." Harris was a five-year starter at Bob Jones, which won back-to-back state titles in her junior and senior seasons. She was unable to watch the Lady Patriots come up short against Hoover in their quest for a three-peat last week at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center - "I had class on one day and we had a game on the other day," she said - but did get to visit her former teammates at the hotel. "I watched everything on the Internet," Harris said. "They gave it a good shot." By Bill Bryant, Times Sports Editor, bill.bryant@htimes.com

Girls state title run stopped
BIRMINGHAM - Bob Jones’ reign as the queens
of basketball in Alabama came to an end with a disappointing offensive
performance in a 39-19 loss to top-ranked Hoover Saturday in the Class
6A state championship game at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center. The
19-point offensive total for the Lady Patriots, who won the last two
Class 6A state titles, set a mark for fewest points in a championship
game. “We knew that this game would come down to defense,” said
Hoover head coach Donnie Quinn. “The defense made all the difference in
the world. The win was Hoover’s second of the season
against Bob Jones and avenged a loss to the Lady Patriots in last
year’s Class 6A state championship game. The Lady Bucs finished the
year with a 32-1 mark with the lone loss coming to Stockton (Calif.)
St. Mary’s, the top-ranked team in the nation. “It was a gritty,
grind-it-out type of game, the kind of game we’ve been winning all
year,” said Bob Jones head coach Tim Miller. “I think it just finally
caught up with us. We just couldn’t put it in the hole.” Bob
Jones, which replaced its entire starting lineup after winning Class 6A
titles the past two seasons, was led by Makena Randall’s eight points. She also added 13 rebounds. Bob
Jones scored just two points in the first quarter, taking an early 2-0
lead when Tiarra Pritchett scored the game’s first bucket 35 seconds
into the game. But Bob Jones didn’t score again until Randall
made a layup with 3:32 remaining in the first half. By then, Hoover had
opened up a 16-4 advantage. The Lady Patriots were able to trim
the margin to 16-9 at the half with a pair of buckets by Pritchett and
a free throw by Randle. Eight of Hoover’s points in the quarter came off Bob Jones turnovers. “It was ugly,” Miller said. “If you had told me we’d be down seven at halftime, I’d have come over and kissed you.” But almost as important as the Lady Bucs’
defense was its effort at the free throw line. Meghan Dunn overcame a
tough day from the field with a 14-for-14 performance at the free throw
line. Dunn, the tournament’s most valuable player, finished with 18 points. Tyrese Tanner added eight points. Hoover
pushed its lead to 10 points in the third quarter when Shannon
Steinert’s 3-pointer with 1:32 remaining put the Bucs in front 24-14. Bob
Jones closed to within seven points in the final quarter, but never got
any closer as Hoover stretched the lead to a game-high 20 points in the
closing seconds. Bob Jones’ offensive production was the lowest
total for a girls’ title game since Arab scored 24 in a loss to Ramsay
in the 2006 Class 5A championship game. The Lady Patriots finished the year with a 33-3 mark, including two losses to Hoover and one to rival Sparkman.

When Hoover-Bob Jones meet, somebody has to be Goliath
Nobody wants to be
Goliath. "Bob Jones is the defending state champion,'' said Hoover High School
girls' coach Donnie
Quinn. "They're the one going for a 'three-peat.' We haven't beaten them
when it matters. We're the ones who have the most to prove.'' Which makes Bob Jones coach Tim Miller laugh. "Yeah, OK,''
Miller said. "We've way over-achieved this year. Those girls from the two-time defending state championship?
They're gone. We're just a scrappy little bunch with no one over
5-foot-9.'' It's laughable to see these two giants of girls'
basketball trying to fit into the role of little David. Hoover is 31-1, ranked No.
18 in the country by USA Today, and has won 31 games by an average of 34
points per game while holding opponents to 30 points or less 15 times this
season. Bob Jones is 33-2, the two-time defending
state champion, coached by a guy who has been in the Final 48 of the state
tournament seven times since 2001, reached the championship game five times, and
won three titles. Oh, and did I mention that these two teams faced each
other last year in the Girls' Class 6A State Championship at the BJCC Arena? Or
that they meet again
in the title game today at 5
p.m.? And that both coaches think the other one has the
advantage? "Ever since Bob Jones knocked us out of this game last
year, I haven't had to say anything to this team,'' Quinn said. "Everyone says
you're just glad to be here, and you are. But when you get beat in the last
game, you walk out with a different perspective. You just want it so
bad.'' The two teams did play in the regular season, with
Hoover winning
by six at Bob Jones. The rematch, which was to take place at Hoover, was cancelled due
to snow. "We hated that,'' Miller said. "We wanted to see where we
were by seeing how we matched up against them a second time. You hate to have to
find out now, in the state championship. "We know they're a great team. Looking at them today
(Friday, in a typical 77-44 victory over
Jeff Davis), they looked like a small Division I team out there. We can't match
up with them at all.'' Not that Bob Jones looked shabby in using a 12-2 run to
close out the second quarter and successfully keep a double-digit lead all the
way to the end for a 51-41 win over
Davidson. "I don't know what Bob Jones will do,'' Quinn said. "I
have a sense of what I think he (Miller) will do, and we have to practice for
that. I know he relishes the idea of beating me. I (relish the idea of beating
Miller), too." Physically, Bob Jones looks to be no match for Hoover. And a few years
ago, a political scientist named Ivan
Arreguin-Toft researched every war fought in the past two hundred years
between strong and weak opponents, and found that the Goliaths - the side that
was deemed obviously more powerful than the other - won 71.5 percent of the
cases. Miller knows his team can't compete straight up.
But Arreguin-Toft, realizing that in the Biblical story David did not fight
Goliath by conventional means but went out with a slingshot and five
stones, found that when the
underdogs chose an unconventional strategy, the underdogs winning percentage
rose from 28.5 percent to 63.6. Hoover looks unbeatable.
But Bob Jones has history on its side. So how does this game play out? Will they go at it like two Goliaths?
Or will one try to be a David? Whatever
happens, this game could be one for the ages. Either Bob Jones wins its third
consecutive title, which hasn't happened since Butler did it from 1997-99; or Hoover avenges last year's
loss and, with the talent in the Bucs' program, could begin a three-year run of
its own. "This has a
chance to be something special,'' Miller said. "For both
teams.''

Two-time defending champ Bob Jones
girls fall 39-19 in 6A final
BIRMINGHAM - Tim Miller stood five feet from his huddled team in heavy
thought at the close of the third quarter Saturday night, kicking out his right
foot and gazing briefly into the stands at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic
Center. What was the Bob Jones High girls coach thinking? What might have been, that's what. His Lady Patriots, ranked second in Class 6A, were still within 10 points of
top-ranked and heavily favored Hoover in the state championship game. But it
could have been five. Or even three. "We sure had some good chances," Miller said. The powerful Lady Bucs don't allow second ones, though. They don't allow many
points, either. Bob Jones didn't even break 20 in a 39-19 loss, which officially ended its
two-year championship run. The point total was the lowest in a girls title game,
with the previous low of 24 being established in 1984 (Red Level against
Courtland in the 1A final) and tied in 2006 (by Arab against Ramsay in the 5A
final). "We just didn't score," Lady Patriots point guard Tiarra Pritchett said. "We had shots, but they just wouldn't fall." Indeed, Bob Jones (33-3)hit just 18.4 percent. But it limited Hoover (32-1)
to 22.2 percent from the floor. The Lady Bucs' Meghan Dunn wound up the lone
player on either side in double-figure scoring, finishing with 18 points. "It was a gritty, grind-it-out game, the kind we've been winning all year,"
Miller said. "I think it just finally caught up with us as far as going against
some good skill players. We just couldn't put it in the hole tonight." In the first quarter, the Lady Patriots couldn't even get the ball to the
basket. After scoring the game's first points, they turned the ball over on six
straight possessions. Hoover, meanwhile, went on a 13-0 run to close the period. Bob Jones wound up
going a total of 11:53 - from 7:25 in the first quarter to 3:32 in the second -
without scoring. "It was ugly," Miller said. The Lady Patriots kept it that way with their defense. And that kept them in
the game. They got a basket here and a basket there, and by halftime they trailed 16-9. "If you had told me we'd be down seven at halftime, I'd have come over and
kissed you," Miller said. "Especially after that first quarter." The deficit stayed right around there for most of the third quarter, but a
3-pointer by Shannon Steinert gave Hoover a 24-14 lead going into the final
eight minutes. Given its offensive output to that point, the order was too tall. "From the jump we knew Hoover had blown teams out," said senior Mekena
Randle, who led Bob Jones with eight points and 13 rebounds. "We had played them
before (losing 41-35), so it was just a matter of going out there and playing.
There were layups and free throws I know I could have hit, but it just didn't
work out. "Knowing you could have done something and you didn't, it's hard." Miller, however, found no fault with his players' effort. The Lady Patriots
reached their third straight final - with five new starters, no less. "Well, I'm proud of our girls, I can tell you that," Miller said. "I didn't
quite think we'd be here, but we were. They played hard again tonight. "I think we overachieved this year, obviously."

LADYPATS ALIVE
BIRMINGHAM - The Bob Jones High girls fell back on the "R" word Friday. As in returning to the Class 6A state final, not as in rebuilding despite
losing all starters from last year's team that won the school's second straight
championship. The second-ranked Lady Patriots earned a berth in the title game by shaking
off a sluggish start to subdue No. 3 Davidson 51-41 in a semifinal at the
Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center. Bob Jones fell in a 13-2 hole at the beginning of the game, but a 13-0 run to
end the quarter gave it a two-point lead it wouldn't relinquish. Junior guard Rikeyah McKinnon said the turnaround was fueled by "frustration
and motivation.'' 'We just all needed to come together,'' she added. The Lady Patriots (33-2) seek their third straight crown against top-ranked
Hoover (31-1) tonight at 5. The Lady Bucs defeated Bob Jones 41-35 in a game
earlier this season. "We know that's a challenge for us because of who they have,'' Lady Patriots
coach Tim Miller said. "Looking across the board, they've got five girls 6-foot
or better. We don't have anybody over 5-9.'' Friday, McKinnon sparked the first-quarter run with a 3-pointer, then made
another before senior Mekena Randle scored to put Bob Jones ahead 15-13 entering
the second quarter. Sophomores DeAsha Campbell and Joidon Jennings both sank 3-pointers to close
the first half to give the Lady Patriots a 29-18 lead at intermission. Bob Jones, which defeated Davidson 59-29 in the season opener, led 38-28
entering the fourth quarter. Davidson (31-4) pulled to within six points at 43-37 on a basket by Aundre
Adams with 4:47 left to play, but senior Tiara Pritchett sank two free throws
and Randle made a layup after getting a steal to push Bob Jones' lead back to an
insurmountable 47-37 with 4:09 remaining. "Everybody stepped up and did what they had to do,'' Randle said. Adams scored 16 points to lead Davidson, which was making its fourth Final 48
appearance in six years. Randle had 19 points and nine rebounds and McKinnon added 11 points for Bob
Jones. "I don't know if it was our best effort, but it was a win,'' Miller said.
"It's been like that all year. We grind 'em out, we don't blow 'em out.''

Class 6A Girls: Bob Jones 51, Davidson 41
Bob Jones had Jan. 29 marked on its calendar. That's when the Patriots
were supposed to make their way down Interstate 65 for a game against
top-ranked Hoover. But Jan. 29 passed without Bob Jones meeting the Bucs on the court. "We
hated when that opportunity didn't arise for us when that snow (came)
and we couldn't come," coach Tim Miller said. "We hoped we would have
the opportunity to see them again. We felt like we would be there. We
weren't sure if we would be." Now, after dispatching Davidson
51-41 Friday in the Class 6A girls semifinal, the Patriots are there.
Class 6A's No. 2 will play for a three-peat when it faces the
Hoover-Jeff Davis winner at 5 Saturday evening. "We would like
to play Hoover," Miller said. "We know that's a challenge for us
because of the team that they have. They've got five or six girls 6-1
or better and we don't have anybody over 5-9. First, the
Patriots had to turn back a Warriors squad that jumped out to a 13-2
lead in the first quarter Friday. Devina Moulds got two baskets for
Davidson in that early run and Aundre Adams had two long jumpers. Bob
Jones responded by having Tierra Jones guard Moulds. The team also
turned to Rikeya McKinnon, who hit a couple of 3-pointers. "We didn't start hard from the jump," McKinnon said. "Somebody needed to step up and hit a shot. We all needed to step up." Mekena Randall did that. She proved too quick for Davidson inside with her drop-step moves and then her drives from up high. Randall
led Bob Jones with 19 points and nine rebounds while McKinnon followed
with 11. Adams paced Davidson (31-4) with 16 points; Moulds had 10
points and 11 boards. Birmingham News -- Solomon Crenshaw Jr., February 26, 2010 12:45 p.m.

Lady Pats simply win
MADISON - Can't do it, that's what the Bob Jones High girls basketball team heard over and over again. Can't make it back to the Class 6A final four in Birmingham. Can't win a third straight state championship. Can't do it because all five starters are gone from the two-time defending state champs. "The expectations outside this gym were not real good," coach Tim Miller said. By now, of course, the bandwagon is overflowing and revisionist history is being written. By now, the members of those state title teams who told the current players they couldn't do it are now fighting for first-class seats on the bandwagon. "They got ragged a little bit last year by last year's group," Miller said. "They said they're not going to be as successful or not going to win, your coach is going to UAH. "It all kind of weighed on them. They had something to prove." The only place Miller is going is back to Birmingham as the Patriots have a 9 a.m. date with Davidson High on Friday in the state semifinals. "Nobody on this team ever quits," senior Mekena Randle said. "And we all wanted it as bad as each other." Still, back to Birmingham? Back for a shot at a third
straight title? "That was never not a goal," senior Tiarra
Pritchett said. "That's always been a goal. I know
from the beginning, we always said go game by game. That was
our main thing." Game by game, Bob Jones has done little this season but win.
The Patriots' offense isn't flashy, and there is
no star for opponents to obsess about. Mostly, it's defense. Lots and lots of defense. In the Northwest Regional final win over Sparkman, Bob Jones
squeaked out a 26-25 win. In the regional semifinal,
Hillcrest scored just 23 points. "We have nobody over 5-foot-9 and don't have the
best skill, based on previous teams we've had,"
Miller said. "They work hard at it but they don't
have the best skill. They want to defend, they want to win
and they compete. "And they do it night in and night out. It's a
collective group. They don't care who scores. They
don't care how we win. Just win." Defense and hard work are nice but, at the end of the day
for a team that replaced all five starters, should anyone be
surprised Bob Jones is back in Birmingham? "Yeah, me, for one," Miller said. "I'm
very surprised." "A lot of people were surprised," Randle said.
"We weren't. We knew from the beginning what we
could do. We just had to get out and do it." Now everyone is on Bob Jones' side - even the skeptics
of the 2009 state champs. "We had all five of the girls texting me and texting
them like crazy (last week)," Miller said.
"Wishing them luck, hope you do well, go get them. "All five of them - not just one or two - all five. It
means something to them."

Bob Jones wins 32nd Game
Either both teams were extremely strong defensively or neither team had awoke yet for the early morning regional game held at Tom Drake Coliseum on the campus of Wallace State College; but with 2:28 left in the quarter, the score stood at 2-0 in favor of the Sparkman Lady Senators. The only score at that point was a basket underneath for Jasmine Jones of Sparkman. Bob Jones was eventually able to get into the scoring column with a 3-pointer by Tiarra Pritchett. The Lady
Patriots (32-2) was able to add one more score before the buzzer with another trey, this time by Rikeya McKinnon, for a 6-2 advantage. "This was one of those games where we had a little luck on our side," said Bob Jones head coach Tim Miller. " These two teams are so evenly matched, that it is a coin flip as to who is going to win. That was our ninth game on the season that was decided by three points or less."

Sparkman (25-7) outscored the Lady Patriots slightly in the second quarter to trail 12-9 heading into the locker rooms and both teams got a few more shots to fall offensively in the third quarter, with Sparkman having the edge 12-8 for
the first lead change of the game since Bob Jones took the lead back in the first quarter. Sharin Rivers took the honors, as she got the offensive put-back off a missed shot by Alexis Butler. "We had our chance to win, but we just could not get it done," said Sparkman head coach June Seals. "I have to put the blame on myself for that one. We had a great game plan, but could not execute it like we should have." The Lady Senators pushed out to their biggest lead of the game with a shot by Jasmine Jones to start the final stanza, but Bob Jones was able to score six of the final eight points of the game to lay claim to the Northwest Regional title and make a return trip to Birmingham for a shot at another AHSAA state title. Although she tried to down-play her role in the final quarter, McKinnon was
responsible for all points score by the Lady Patriots, as she drained two 3-pointers, including the game winner. Bob Jones was led in scoring by Pritchett with 14 points, two rebounds and two assists, McKinnon had nine points (all 3-pointers), two rebounds and a blocked shot, Alisia Mathews followed with two each in points and rebounds, Makena Randle scored nine boards, two steals and one point, Tierra Jones contributed with two steals and a rebound, and Shelby Lambert added two rebounds and an assist. Sparkman was led by Jones with 11 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots for a double-double, DeAsia Henley followed with six points, one rebound and an assist, Ashunte Smith contributed with four points, four boards, two steals and one assist, Rivers added three rebounds, two points and a steal, while Butler finished with two points, five rebounds and an assist. The Northwest All-regional team selections for Class 6A girls were Tiarra
Pritchett (MVP), Rikeya McKinnon and Makena Randle for Bob Jones, Jasmine Jones and Sharin Rivers of Sparkman, and Chelsee Black for Bessemer City (Jess Lanier High).

McKinnon proves clutch
Junior's late 3-pointer propels Bob Jones past Sparkman 26-25 in final
HANCEVILLE - Rikeyah McKinnon lost neither her faith nor her 3-point shooting
touch. McKinnon made up for several missed shots with the two biggest of her career
Friday, sinking two treys in the fourth quarter to account for all of Bob Jones'
points in the period as the Lady Patriots punched a return ticket to Birmingham
and the Class 6A girls final four. McKinnon's second 3-pointer in the period provided the difference for the
two-time defending state champions with 18 seconds to play in a 26-25 victory
archrival Sparkman in the Northwest Regional final at Wallace State-Hanceville. She came around a screen to take a pass and didn't hesitate to fire away from
the top of the key despite making just one of her previous four 3-point
attempts, making the decisive shot in the third one-point game between the two
teams this season. "I was wide open,'' she said. "I knew we needed a 3. I hadn't hit throughout
the game, but something inside me said 'shoot.' I had faith. Something told me
it was going in.'' Bob Jones (32-2) will play Davidson, the South Regional winner, in the state
semifinals Friday at 9 a.m. at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center. After the Lady Patriots went ahead, Sparkman's Jasmine Jones had a driving
shot roll off the rim. Bob Jones rebounded and was fouled with 9.1 seconds left. The Lady Senators had only two fouls, so with not enough time to put Bob
Jones at the free-throw line a steal was necessary. They got it when Ashunte
Smith picked off an inbound pass, and her shot in the lane that followed bounced
away. Bob Jones rebounded again and ran out the clock.

Lady Patriots set for for Sparkman rematch
HANCEVILLE - The Bob Jones High girls needed a spark. Lady Patriots coach Tim Miller tried to ignite one by making a mass
substitution of five for five midway through the first quarter. But Bob Jones wouldn't shake what Miller and senior Mekena Randle called a
"sluggish'' start in their 51-23 Class 6A girls Northwest Regional semifinal win
over Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa until the second period Tuesday. Junior Rikeya McKinnon finally gave the team an energy boost with nine
straight points to end the first half and push Bob Jones to a 25-7 lead entering
the third quarter at Wallace State-Hanceville. She started the run with a 3-pointer and finished it with a steal-and-layup
on her way to a game-high 15 points. "We finally got some transition buckets in the second quarter to stretch out
the lead,'' Miller said. Bob Jones (31-2), ranked second, plays archrival and fourth-ranked Sparkman
(25-6) for the regional title Friday at 9 a.m. The Lady Patriots are two-time
defending regional and state champions. Hillcrest (15-15) had a woeful time trying to score. The Lady Patriots shot
16.7 percent in the first half, sinking 3-of-18 from the field. The Lady Patriots finished with a shooting percentage of 27.8 percent
(10-of-36) and left coach Jerome Elliott at a loss to explain his team's
failures here. Hillcrest had made five straight trips to the regional and have lost to
Sparkman three times and Bob Jones twice. The last two setbacks have been particularly humiliating. Sparkman defeated
Hillcrest 83-31 last season. "This is well beyond the number of times I wanted to come here and not be
successful,'' he said. "It's at a point now where the thing is old. We get to
this stage and all of a sudden go south.'' Bob Jones never trailed, but led only 13-5 after one quarter and held the
25-7 halftime advantage. Miller was perturbed with his team's overall play and chalked it up to lack
of experience. He replaced all starters from last year's team. "We had seven or eight who were bug-eyed in the locker room at the half,'' he
said. Randle scored five straight points to open the second half and the Lady
Patriots were on their way to the final where they'll meet Sparkman for the
fifth straight year.

Sluggish fourth quarter can't deny Bob Jones, 52-43
NEW MARKET - The Bob Jones High girls basketball team survived Thursday night's Class 6A sub-regional against Buckhorn despite making only 8-of-16 free throws in the fourth quarter. The second-ranked Lady Patriots held off the No. 8 Lady Bucks 52-43. They advanced to play at noon Tuesday at the Northwest Regional in Hanceville against Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa. "We defended fairly well," Bob Jones coach Tim Miller said. "We're not finishing late-game situations because we're not hitting free throws. Don't get me wrong. I'm happy for the win, we're moving on. At this stage any win is a good win." Mekena Randle had 17 points and eight rebounds for the two-time defending state champions (30-2). Shelby Lambert scored 10. "We're a team this year," said Randle, a senior center. "We depend on each other more and more each game." "We really didn't play very well," said Lambert, a senior guard. "But we are improving and we're working hard. We'll definitely be better in this situation next time. But it is a win, we'll take it." The Lady Patriots led 34-22 after three quarters and withstood the game's frantic closing minutes when the Lady Bucks kept putting them on the foul line. Lambert made 3-of-4 free throws in the fourth quarter and 5-of-6 for the game. Jacquelyn Thompson scored 11, including three 3-pointers, for the Lady Bucks (16-11). "I think we couldn't really get going offensively in the early quarters and we struggled getting the ball down low," Buckhorn coach Anthony Bell said. "We missed a whole bunch of layups and turned the ball over. They (the Lady Patriots) do a great job taking care of the basketball." Miller said he wants his young team to understand the importance of layups and free throws in late-game situations. His 12 players include seven sophomores, four seniors and one junior. "Our team played hard," Miller said. "They are listening. None of these girls have been in a playoff atmosphere like this so it is new and we're still growing and learning." | Sparkman wins it late |
Layup at buzzer shocks Bob Jones
in area final, 40-39
MADISON - Joyce Kenon had never experienced the state's premier girls
basketball rivalry until she enrolled at Sparkman last summer and became a part
of the Lady Senators' program. Fourth-ranked Sparkman and second-ranked Bob Jones played yet another classic
Saturday night in the Class 6A, Area 15 championship game. And no one had a
bigger role in determining the outcome than Kenon, a 5-foot-10 reserve. Kenon tossed in a layup off an in-bounds play as time expired to lift the
Lady Senators to a stunning 40-39 victory on the Lady Patriots' home floor.
Sparkman (23-6) overcame a six-point deficit in the final 39 seconds to snap Bob
Jones' 23-game winning streak. Kenon had kept Sparkman's hopes alive with a 3-pointer with 8.2 seconds
remaining. After Bob Jones turned the ball over attempting to throw it in, the
Lady Senators got possession underneath their own basket. Bob Jones (29-2) - which had fouls to spare - immediately committed one on
6-foot-1 center Jasmine Jones with 1.8 seconds left. Unable to lob the ball into
Jones again, it instead came to Kenon, who streaked across the lane from outside
the free-throw line and went up with the layup as the horn sounded. While Sparkman celebrated, Bob Jones coach Tim Miller sought an explanation
from the three-man officiating crew as to whether Kenon had released the shot
with time on the clock. One official near mid-court appeared to wave it off
before all three left the court. Moments later the lead referee emerged to rule that the shot indeed counted
and the Lady Senators' celebration resumed. "It was not supposed to come to me," Kenon said, "but I saw the opening so I
figured 'Why don't I just hit the open area.' " "We knew they'd put two or three on J.J. (Jones)," said Sparkman coach June
Seals. "This kid (Kenon) has hit unbelievable layups. She has an unorthodox shot
so I put her on the other side knowing that they've got to cover (Sharin)
Rivers. "When she got it she flipped it up. But she shoots 'em that way all the
time." How long had it been since Bob Jones lost? To put it in perspective, Tim Tebow was quarterback of the nation's No.
1-ranked college football team and U.S. Rep. Parker Griffith was still a
Democrat when the Lady Patriots fell to No. 1 Hoover back in November. A 12-0 fourth-quarter run pushed the Lady Patriots' lead to 36-28 with 1:12
remaining, but they failed to put the game away from the free-throw line,
missing five down the stretch. Rivers' 3-pointer made it 38-35 with 27.5 seconds to go. A free throw by
Shelly Lambert gave Bob Jones a 39-35 lead with 23 seconds left, but Kenon
scored her only five points of the game in the final seconds to hand Sparkman
its first win in three tries against the Lady Patriots. Bob Jones travels to Area 16 champion Buckhorn for next week's sub-regional
play. Sparkman hosts Area 15 runner-up Hazel Green. Jones led Sparkman with 11 points and Alexis Butler added 10. Sunday, February 07, 2010, By Jerry Felts, For The Times

Bob Jones delivers defensive dandy in victory
MADISON - Stingy.
That's what host Bob Jones High was Thursday night against Austin in the semi-finals of the Class 6A, Area 15 girls basketball tournament. The second-ranked Lady Patriots (29-1) allowed only nine baskets - one in the first quarter, two in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth - in a 54-26 victory over the Lady Black Bears (12-14). "Defense has always been our trademark," said Bob Jones coach Tim Miller, who celebrated his 300th career win. "We did a good job of pressuring the ball tonight." Almost everybody scored for the Lady Patriots (seven in the first quarter alone), who fell behind 2-0 and then proceeded to go on a 15-0 run. Sophomore Tierra Jones, with 14 points, was the only one to reach double-figure scoring. "We've been that way all year long. It doesn't matter who does the scoring for us," Miller said. "We get production out of everybody. We like that balance." Bob Jones plays Sparkman at 7 p.m. Saturday for the title. Bill Bryant, Huntsville Times staff report

No. 2 Bob Jones tops Grissom 51-19. Bob Jones coach Tim Miller moved one game closer to career win No. 300 as the
Class 6A, second-ranked Lady Patriots broke open a tight game in the second half to defeat Grissom 51-19 Tuesday night. Tierra Jones scored 14 points to lead Bob Jones (28-1). The Lady Patriots led 14-7 at the half, then eased away to a 30-16 lead entering the fourth quarter. "We played with them for three quarters, then couldn't make a shot,'' Lady
Tigers coach Guy Collins said. Natalie Farmer had seven points to lead Grissom (9-15). MeKena Randle added 12 for Bob Jones (27-1) which Friday plays at Lee before
traveling Saturday to take on top-ranked Hoover. The Lady Bucs defeated Bob
Jones 41-35 in December. "We would like to execute better than the last time we played them,'' Miller
said. "You go into each game looking for more consistency on each end, and going
into a game with this type of competition, if we don't we'll get beat pretty
good.'' Grissom will play host to Columbia on Friday. Mike Easterling,Wednesday, January 27, 2010, From staff reports,Huntsville Times

Bob Jones Still Rolling

Lady Patriots fine with busy schedule, top Buckhorn 47-30
MADISON - The Bob Jones High girls played their fourth basketball game in five days Tuesday night. But the Lady Patriots attacked Buckhorn with the zeal of a season opener in a battle of Top 10 teams. Mekena Randle scored 10 points to lead the way as Bob Jones, ranked second on Class 6A, defeated the ninth-ranked Lady Bucks 47-30. "The more reps we get the better we'll get, "Randle said as she iced a fractured wrist. She added it only hurts when it "gets hit." Bob Jones improved to 25-1 -- its lone loss was to top-ranked Hoover in the seventh game of the season - while Buckhorn dropped to 14-7. "We didn't show up to play," Lady Bucks guard Krishayle Evans said. "When we played scared, we'll get beat by whatever the score was or worse." The Lady Patriots take on Muscle Shoals on Thursday and meet Florence on Friday. The Lady Bucks next play at home against Area 16 foe and archival Hazel Green. Buckhorn can clinch homecourt for the area tournament with a win, while a Lady Trojans victory would force a tie. "We're trying to avoid a coin toss," Lady Bucks coach Anthony Bell said. Tuesday night, Buckhorn couldn't avoid another loss to the Lady Patriots. Buckhorn lost to Bob Jones for the second time this season and hasn't defeated its former county rival since the 2001-02 season. However, the two teams haven't played each season since. Things began well enough for the Lady Bucks, who led 11-8 at the end of the first quarter. But Bob Jones moved ahead in the second and was in control at the half 26-15. The Lady Patriots led by as much as 15 points in the third quarter, took a 36-26 lead into the fourth and the closest the Lady Bucks got the rest of the way was 40-30 with 2:47 left. According to Bob Jones coach Tim Miller, the busy game schedule has been good for his team. "You want to work on your stuff against somebody else," he said. "Your still finding out what will work, what doesn't work. And the kids like it better." Rikeyah McKinnon said the Lady Patriots continue to be a work in progress as they gear up to host the area tournament beginning Feb. 5. "I feel like we've gotten a lot better since December," she said. "But, we've got a long way to go." Jacquelyn Lambert led Buckhorn with 10 points.

Bob Jones 65, Shades Valley 40
Class 6A second-ranked Bob Jones used a 10-0 run to start the second quarter
to build a 25-8 lead on the way to an easy victory in Martin Luther King Day
girls basketball at Samford.
The two-time defending class champion Patriots (24-1) kept the Mounties
(17-6) at bay with tight man-to-man defense and were able to get plenty of easy
baskets inside.
"Anytime someone is that aggressive with us we have trouble handling it,"
said Shades Valley coach Tonya Hunter. "They play really good defense. It's the
best defense we've faced this year."
The Patriots started quickly with an 8-0 run keyed by a pair of baskets from
senior 5-foot-5 point guard Tiarra Pritchett, who finished with eight points in
the balanced attack. Tierra Jones led Bob Jones with 12 points off the bench
while Shelby Lambert nailed three 3-pointers for nine points and Rikeyah
McKinnon added nine points.
Morganne Phillips and Ashlee McAdory each scored 13 points to lead the
Mounties. Birmingham News - Dennis Victory, January 18, 2010 8:31 p.m.

Bob Jones girls clinch area title vs. Sparkman
HARVEST - It was vintage Bob Jones vs. Sparkman girls. At least in effort and drama. The Lady Patriots, ranked second in Class 6A, were held to
10 baskets but held the fourth-ranked Lady Senators to 12
and clinched the Area 15 championship with a 30-26 victory
Saturday. "It's not a sprint but a marathon every time you
play Sparkman,'' Bob Jones coach Tim Miller said.
"I think we defended well, and they do some things to
us that caused the score to be low.'' Tiarra Pritchett was high-scorer for Bob Jones (23-1
overall, 5-1 area) with nine points. "We missed a lot of easy shots, open
baskets,'' she said. There was an echo in the locker room at the other end of the
gym. "We missed wide-open shots,'' Sparkman coach
June Seals said. "My kids do not handle the pressure
well right now. They play their guts out, but they've
got to get a basketball mentality. They have to learn to
finish shots.'' Sparkman (17-6, 2-3) was led by Jasmine Jones' 11
points and seven rebounds. Bob Jones sank 8-of-15 free throws while the Lady Senators
sank just 1-of-6. Sunday, January 17, 2010, By Mike Easterling, Times Sports Writer mike.easterling@htimes.com

Top lineup set for 26th Classic
6A champ Bob Jones seen as Decatur Orthopaedic Clinic
favorite
If you love high school basketball, next
week is one of the most wonderful times of the year. Local girls basketball fans
don’t have to travel far from the comforts of home to enjoy great competition in
one of the longest-standing girls tournaments in the state when the 26th annual
Decatur Orthopaedic Clinic Classic begins Monday at Decatur High. The three-day tournament will feature
eight games Monday, followed by eight games both Tuesday and Wednesday in Earl
Morris Gymnasium. The finals are set for Wednesday at 8 p.m. “I think the big thing this year is that
we have a field where half of the teams in it could win the tournament. At least
half of the field could win it and it not be a surprise.” While defending tournament champion and
two-time defending Class 6A state champion Bob Jones is the favorite, the Lady
Patriots will be challenged by several other teams in this year’s
field. This year’s field includes two
state-ranked teams — 6A No. 2 Bob Jones and 2A No. 8 Tanner — while four others
have been in the rankings at some point this season. Local teams fared well in last year’s
tournament. Sparkman beat Decatur 61-33 in last year’s
championship game. Clay-Chalkville finished third in the tournament last year,
beating Austin in the consolation finals. Two local teams square off on the first
day when 6A Austin meets 4A Priceville at 6:30 p.m. Boy expects it to be one of the most hotly
contested games of the day. “Priceville is in for the first time and
we’re excited to have them,” Boy said. “I look forward to seeing that (Austin
vs. Priceville) game for sure.” Two more teams added from last year are
regular Northwest Regional qualifier 6A Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa along with 5A
Fairfield, now coached by Tiffany Frederick, who played in the tournament during
her prep days. “Those two coming in really beef up this
field,” Boy said. “I think we’ve got a nice flavor for some different kinds of
basketball.” For the host team, Boy said it’s a chance
“to get back on track,” after going 1-2 recently in the Huntsville Times Ladies
Classic. Decatur’s girls earned a No. 9 state ranking earlier in the
season. “We had a very disappointing Huntsville
Times Classic. There’s no secret in that and we’re not going to hide from that,”
Boy said. “We need to use this tournament to build momentum for the second half
of the season.” Tournament admission for each day will be
$5. By Brooke Milam, Sports Writer

Lady Pats filled with super subs
MADISON - Not long after the Bob Jones High girls had taken a one-point
second-quarter lead in what to that point had been a back-and-forth affair with
Hazel Green, five players dressed in home white trotted from the bench and
squatted at the scorer's table. Lady Patriots coach Tim Miller wasn't subbing 5-for-5 for motivational
purposes during Wednesday's championship game of The Huntsville Times Classic. He was doing it because he could do it. "Oh yeah, it's by design," he said. About four minutes later, when the halftime buzzer sounded, Class 6A's
second-ranked team and two-time defending champion headed to the locker room
with a 15-point advantage. Bob Jones went on to claim a 62-40 victory for its third straight Huntsville
Times Classic title at its home gym. "We have so many people that we can put in," said 5-foot-8 sophomore forward Katie Colson, who had nine points off the bench for the Lady Patriots. "We all
get playing time, and any one of us can step up." Much has been made about Miller having to replace the five starters from the
juggernaut that rolled through the past couple of Februarys. All of them signed
Division I scholarships. While the individual talent might not be as strong, collectively the Lady
Patriots are doing just fine. Eight different players scored in the first half
against the Lady Trojans, which fit right in with Miller's plan. "This being our fourth game in three days, and playing a transition team like
them, I told everybody they would get an opportunity to play," Miller said. "We
like to push it, too. Sometimes, it just depends on the style of play we're
facing." In this particular case, the style was physical from the tip. Bodies flopped.
Hips were checked. Tempers were occasionally on the cusp of being flared. By early in the second half, Miller and his counterpart Chad Hall were
effectively in time out. Each of them had been assessed technical fouls. For a first meeting - which this was - it sure had the look of a February
postseason game after several previous engagements. "I feel like most teams get up to play Bob Jones," Miller said. "Everybody
wants to beat us, and the girls on this team are beginning to see that on a
daily basis." For the first 12 or so minutes, Hazel Green had its nose right in there, but
it eventually had its impressive tournament run stopped for a variety of
reasons. The Lady Trojans had a difficult time rebounding and defending, leading Hall
to say afterward that the officials "took the game out of our hands." But the
first-year coach was also quick to point out "their bench took the lead and
stretched it out," which effectively put Hazel Green's hopes of an upset to
rest. "They play hard, without a doubt," Hall said of the Lady Patriots. "We want
our program to be where Bob Jones is." It has to be happy where it is right now, with 14 victories and just one
loss. "We're just having a lot of fun," Colson said, "and we're all playing
together." If nothing else, these Lady Patriots have answered any questions about how
they were going to replace all of that departed talent. It's apparent they are
capable of building a legacy of their own. It's still early, of course. And pulling it off won't be easy. But at least they have a lot of folks willing to lend a hand. Thursday, December 24, 2009, Huntsville Times, Contact Bill Bryant at bill.bryant@htimes.com
